What Now

as a few of you know now from my posts i've recently left the organisation & it's lies behind.

it's truly a wonderful sense of freedom.

what i'd like to know from you guys is when you left, what did you do then?

When I left JWs my first question was if not them, then who? was there a "true" religion out there that I had no knowledge about?

so I went to the library and one of the first books I read was who wrote the bible. I figured starting at the beginning would help.

what I found shocked me to some degree... because they showed me things which had always bothered my as a JW but which I had never received a satisfactory answer. I also read books about Cults and psychology and saw that the bible contained a lot of mental manipulation techniques including what were similar to hypnotic inductions... I saw that the god of the bible was playing mind games with his followers and could not be the loving just and merciful fantasy god that I had come to accept....

for the first time I read books by atheists and agnostics and humanists and found they had a far greater degree of rationality and sense on their side then anything I had found by religious people who made a lot of excuses for their lack of evidence.

most shocking of all was the case against Jesus being a real person...I found the more one looked for the historical Jesus the more one found nothing but legends myths rumors and hearsay... that no living Jesus can be found in history nor was one required for history to be what we know today.

Just like the Mormons do not require golden plates to be real to have their book of mormon

christians do not require a real Jesus to have their faith and fervor.

everything i know is my own minds invention/creation.. i have never known a moment when i did not exist and never shall.. i know everything there is to know in my own mental universe.. just because i cannot control what my own mind invents does not make me less god, as i did not create myself but have always existed as far as i know and so have never had any say in my true nature or how it works.. i am like brahma-- reality dreaming about itself.. i am the generator of dreams or g.o.d..

Did our ancestors really live for hundreds of years?

what does science say about this?.

I always wondered about this. But what I could not really swallow was that the earth's population became what it is today (several billion) over 6000 years from only two people (then 8 after the flood).

considering each generation around 40 years...there could be 150 generations in that time span...and exponetial addition can add up very quickly with just 4 children for every couple on average we would have far more than billons by now

from what I recall -- and dont quote me on this....

when cells divide there is a sort of wick which loses one segement with each division to tell the cells when to stop replicating so that errors creeping in will not totally take over the organism....this gives a functional limit on the number of replications each cell can make ...when cells lose this wick and keep replicating without end, we call that cancer or a tumor.

i'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.

even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Will humanity EVER outgrow God?

firstly let me say that i am not trying to offend believers - i was one for most of my life.

nor is this a discussion about whether god/religion is a 'good' or 'bad' thing, that argument will rage forever.

what i'm asking is really a simple question;.

When I exited JWs, my first fear was that my life would become totally meaningless without faith or a god....but I was not finding that to be the case at all...so I had to rethink where meaning came from and I found the answer in a news article about a chess champ who beat the IBM computer program and declared that his victory felt hollow...there was no feeling of defeating an enemy or opponent as the computer did not care that it lost.

that struck a cord.... meaning comes from caring...can caring comes from awareness that our moves in life do impact our contentment for good or ill....

with each move we make we gamble on better outcomes than the present or to maintain a basically acceptable level of living... we care about the consequences of our actions....and by projection and extension we apply this to others and this is the true basis for morality, not arbitrary rules and laws of mythical gods which often contradict what we innately see and feel as the best course to take.

I found that there is no meaning OF life --that is no need to have my life judged externally by others after I have lived it and care about their verdict...but plenty of meaning found by the living....

there will always loom large a notion that somethings exist even if we will never know anything about them...and there the concept of a god will always sit and stare back at us....

there will always be a feeling of something looking over our shoulder as we journey from one adventure to another...a sense that our internal dialogue is being said to someone else...why do we talk to ourself if we already know what we are going to say (^_^)...there seems to be an ever present sense that this internal dialogue is not for our own benefit alone...

when you look into the abyss the abyss stares back....

the concept of god is always linked to ultimate unanswerable questions which haunt every generation... so while many may live pragmatically without a second thought to the will of any particular god, there may never be an ending to that feeling that someone is watching even when no one is around. though it is only our own mind

Very good corelation with the Matrix!!!!

in a sense most religions are telling us that this world is a sham and that the "real" world is some sort of spirital place which makes this one look like a rubish heap.... and all we have to do is blindly obey the orders of those who claim to have the keys to that realm. the problem is that we have literally thousands of people claiming to have KEYS to a realm they can only show us by description in an old book which cannot be demonstrated to be more than cultural mythology... are there other realms beyond this one? perhaps, do any of these people know anything about them or how to get to them....very doubtful.

Can Science Answer All questions?

i believe that we will eventually know:.

1.for sure wheter their are people/life forms on other planets.

2. what happens when we die .

Funny, I can agree with both of you. Are you sure you don't agree with each other?
Sure the Matrix is science fiction, but an excellent allegory of what reality "really" is, something beyond our conscious perception.
Since science is a slave to perception, it does have limitations within its own cosmos. The only way you can trully define the cosmos is if you remove yourself from it.
But if the cosmos is all there is...

yes and no.... if I am the dreamer and there is nothing to know for me but my dreaming...then my reality, the cause of the dream is not identicle to the dream.... if I am reality dreaming or perceiving myself....my perceptions are still not identicle to the reality inspiring them, though there is a 1:1 corrospondance.... gets tricky. from personal experience and theorizing I conclude that this realm I am in is one of many possible and I am sharing it with semi-independent aspects of my own total self.... just like one computer can be running several programs in parallel or side by side, so too, I see you and everyone else as individual programs being run on the one reality machine....the quantum computer I call GOD or the Generator Of Diversity...or Generator of Dreams in my own case.
